Fruit and Bowl shows Patrick Caulfield operating at his highest level. This deceptively simple artwork shows how, with bold lines and just a few colours, Caulfield was able to construct the perfect composition. One of a series of five screenprints produced 1979-80, this is the standout best by a huge distance. This particular example was part of the collection of the Rattlesnake Club, Detroit, Michigan - a high end dining establishment - until its closure in 2024. It was clearly appreciated and very well looked after - the condition is excellent with no sign of fading, creases or other damage. Examples of this print are held in various public collections, including the Tate.
